Today we’re selling United Nudes’ architecturally inspired footwear. Sarah Fones investigates the connection between buildings and shoes.

For the past oh, eight seasons or so, chunky, clunky, vertiginous, (as in painful,) footwear has dominated designer runways. Said wedges and platforms have often been dubbed “sculptural” and “architectural,” when in fact they’re essentially just “high”.  What separates the truly chic from the weak? Well, the easiest answer would be a bonafide architect-as-designer.  Consider Zaha Hadid for Melissa and Lacoste; Frank Gehry for J.M. Weston; or Rem D Koolhaas (perhaps you’ve heard of his uncle?), for United Nude.

YUM.  Been lusting after a pair of United Nudes for ages but still want to try some on first.  Architecture as footwear could be great, but being able to walk is kind of important too.

Their intro goes:

A leader of South Florida’s music scene and a pure bred Miamian, Lauren Reskin is fighting to save the Jackie Gleason Theater as the great live music venue that it is.

I saw Caveman today!  It had been a while.  Caveman is a grizzled, older, shoeless and often shirtless man who pushes a shopping cart full of coconuts.  He shimmies up palm trees and wanders around Little Haiti and the Upper East Side selling his bounty.  It’s always a good day when he comes by Sweat.  He’ll hack off the top for you with a machete and sometimes he even has straws.

“Hey Caveman!”
“Well there’s the love of my life.  I’ll come by soon!”

Back in 2006, my good friend DJ Hottpants and I did a weekly party at a roller rink in Ft. Lauderdale.  It was called ROLL OUT and it was amazing (there were boozy slushies).  This was the first flier:

Hottpants and I got together recently and created two volumes of tracks to commemorate the party.  Our frequent spins included freestyle, pop, electro, divas, hip hop, indie, and classic skate jams.  Both mixes are tons of fun (perfect for a workout) and end with a slow jam for the “couples skate”.

Please listen and follow on Spotify!  We’ll post Vol. II next week!

Lots of cool press and news this Sweatstock week (and hopefully I’ll be able to post here a little more often once it’s over).

What I’m most proud of/excited for is that I’ve been selected to be a part of Class VII of the Miami Foundation’s Miami Fellows program.  I kinda love this image of the new class.  Guess which one I am?  (Hint: I have red hair.)

My March workout calendar.  Took a week off at the end due to extreme busyness (and a quick trip to Jacksonville), which is okay after 12 solid weeks of consistency.  Have been back at it in April, even broke out my tennis racket for some freestyle tennis at the local courts.  Btw freestyle tennis is the best for cardio, and/or if you’re not very good (hi!).  The only rule: get the ball back to the other person.  It really keeps it moving…

Street parade a few years back in Little Haiti.  Been thinking a lot about the neighborhood lately (probably related to the amount of Sweatstock permitting and logistics I’ve been working on).  Things are changing, but so much has stayed the same.
